What is a Home Safety Assessment?
A Home Safety Assessment is a comprehensive in-home visit by a qualified occupational therapist. We evaluate how you move through and use your home, identify potential risks, and recommend modifications to improve safety, ease of living and falls prevention.
We assess areas such as:
-
Bathroom and shower access
-
Mobility and transfers
-
Entryways and steps
-
Falls risk
-
Lighting and layout
-
Use of mobility aids or adaptive equipment
Recommendations May Include:
-
Grab rails or handrails
-
Ramps or threshold modifications
-
Bathroom safety equipment (e.g. shower chairs, long-handled aids)
-
Bed or chair aids
-
Environmental layout changes to reduce hazards
-
Assistive technology to compensate for age related changes including memory loss
All recommendations are explained clearly, with the goal of enhancing safety, comfort, and independence in your home environment.
